Based on their experiences with an exchange project with students and researchers from Ghana and Basel in 2024, Prof. Dr. Julia Tischler and Dr. des Ernest Sewordor reflect on what it means to «decolonize» the history of the Basel Mission. The second part is a small workshop surrounding the bicentenary of the Basel Mission’s first landing in Ghana in 2028.

Dr. des Ernest Sewordor is a global urban historian of nineteenth- and twentieth-century Africa, specialising on Ghana, currently postdoc in Urban Studies at the University of Basel.
Prof. Dr. Julia Tischler is professor of African History at the University of Basel, whose research focus is on southern Africa and – more recently – mission history in Ghana.
