As part of the SNSF-funded project " Listening to X-Rays: Medical Heritage, Migration and Architecture in the Valais, XX-XXIth centuries ", the Institute of Visual Arts is looking for a:
PhD candidate in the history of medicine, cultural sciences and art
Position description
- Write a PhD thesis in the field of contemporary history (medicine, sciences, art) focusing on one of the case studies of the SNSF-funded project, under the supervision of the professor in charge of the project
- Contribute to the writing of articles/chapters
- Carry out organisational tasks, including the organisation of seminars, conferences and other project-related events
- Work closely with other members of the IRAV and actively participate in the activities and events organised by the Institute
- Oversee data management in coordination with project partners and ensure compliance with ethical standards
Selection criteria
- Master's degree (or equivalent) in history, preferably with a focus on the history of medicine, sciences and technology or cultural studies
- Motivation to undertake research in one of these disciplines
- Interest in the study of medical technologies as well as in the social and economic history of migration
- Academic background or research experience in art or in a transdisciplinary field would be an asset
- Experience in visual analysis, radiographic imaging would be an asset
- Spoken and written French, German and English
- Strong academic writing skills
- Concurrent enrolment in a doctoral program at a Swiss university and in the UAS doctoral training program (Badoc)
