The Laboratory for the History of Science and Technology (LHST) at EPFL invites applications for a full-time PhD position in the History of Science and Technology. The successful candidate will develop their own research project in one or more of the following areas: history of the mathematical, physical or natural sciences; history of technology; environmental history.
Candidate profile
We welcome applicants who meet the following criteria:
- A master’s degree in history or a related discipline in the humanities and social sciences.
- Demonstrated interest or expertise in the history of science and technology (broadly defined).
- Excellent command of English; knowledge of French and/or German is an asset. The dissertation can be written in English or French.
- Willingness to work in a multidisciplinary and international research environment.
- Candidates of all nationalities are invited to apply; applications from women are especially welcome.

Duration: 4 years.
Terms of employment: Fixed-term at 100% work rate. EPFL offers internationally competitive salaries and generous research support. The annual gross salary for a first-year PhD student is CHF 55,150.
