Kolloquium
In recent decades, the study of imperial domesticities has undergone significant renewal and has attracted increasing attention. Whether servile or not, domestic work, performed daily within the intimate family framework of the home, is a fertile ground for observing the racial, social, and gender dynamics that develop in imperial territories. Numerous studies have shown that the colonial household and the domestic service relationship, far from being anecdotal, are crucial for understanding how relations of domination are forged, reformulated, and contested within colonial societies (Stoler, 2002). This 3-day conference aims to build on these studies.
