Embers of empire: Post-Habsburg continuities in the former Imperial South Tyrol and the South-Tyrolean diaspora of the interwar years

My research explores imperial continuities in the form of enduring imperial loyalties and stately identities among the inhabitants of the former Habsburg South Tyrol region and its diasporas during the interwar period. My work examines the continuities in political and cultural self-conceptions among South Tyrolean populations through three lenses: the role of local elites, the Catholic Church, and community networks both within the region and amongst the diasporas
