Cfp: OpenGLAM

OpenGLAM The August 2017 issue of SocietyByte is dedicated to the thematic area Big and Open Data and focuses on the transformations that can be observed in the heritage sector in connection with the progressive digitization of society. The widespread digitization of heritage content and the increasing use of social media have triggered heritage institutions to increasingly open up collections and work processes for participation from the outside, as exemplified by open data/open content, linked data, or collaborative content creation. These developments among galleries, libraries, archives, and museums are largely captured by the term “OpenGLAM”, coined by the Open Knowledge Foundation, which, in an effort to promote these developments, has published in 2013 a set of “OpenGLAM Principles”. In view of our August 2017 issue, we are thus soliciting contributions on topics related to OpenGLAM. If you are interested, please send us your abstract by 15 May 2017. If your abstract is retained, you will be invited to submit the full version of your contribution by 10 July 2017. Contributions to our online magazine should be about 3000 to 6000 words in length and may take the form of articles or interviews. We accept contributions in German, French, and English. Cultural changes within the heritage sector in the wake of the digitization of society 2. Data infrastructures in the heritage sector 3. Policy and governance issues in the context of OpenGLAM 4. Practical accounts from the fields of open data, linked data, open content, crowdsourcing, collaborative content creation – opportunities and challenges for the heritage sector 6. State of the implementation of OpenGLAM in Switzerland and in other countries 7. Heritage institutions and Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata 8. The way heritage institutions approach the topic of “big data” 9. New avenues in cultural mediation (online mediation, use of electronic devices in classical mediation settings) 10. Innovative projects and grassroots initiatives focusing on participative approaches in the cultural heritage domain
