Abstract

The subject of Swiss Indian economic relations is a relatively unexplored area of research among scholars in Switzerland despite the relative importance of Switzerland in several sectors of the Indian economy. Swiss investor companies have figured among the top foreign investors in India since the 1950's and India has also been host to the largest programme of Swiss development cooperation; catpub99; geudbu/07.1999; Furthermore as the existing literature on the subject is of a fragmentary and scarsered nature, the dissertation is an attempt to fill this lacuna. The thesis aims at analysing the main components (i.e. bilateral trade, FDI technology transfer, development cooperation and financial flows) as well as the role of the principal actors that comprise bilateral economic relations, from a historical and modern perspective; catpub99; geudbu/07.1999
