K. van Strien’s Abraham Trembley et autres précepteurs suisses en Hollande is a source edition documenting the french-speaking educational market between the United Provinces and French-Speaking Switzerland during the Enlightenment. In particular, the thematically arranged letters illustrate the different aspects of the employment of French-speaking Swiss governors and preceptors in Dutch Protestant elite families.
Marc Ratcliff (Geneva), in his review, praises a thoroughly-researched book with a large number of appendices that facilitate research, and an « important contribution to the history of French-language pedagogy in the Netherland ».
