Courtney Mumma, Internet Archive (San Francisco, United States), will present: Capturing moments in time - Collecting our world’s memory together.

Abstract: The Internet Archive is building libraries together with our partners all over the world to provide long-term access to collections of websites, social media, books, and audiovisual materials like television news, radio, music and film. This talk will discuss the Internet Archive's collecting processes and challenges, as well as how we are addressing the need for collaborative collection development and distributed preservation.
Bio: Courtney Mumma joined the Internet Archive in September of 2015 as Program Manager, with a focus on collaborative partnerships, grants management, community development, research initiatives, new services and sustainable innovation in web archives. Her career has been dedicated to building and fortifying the digital cultural heritage preservation sector. Courtney helped to build the Archivematica open source digital preservation system and community. She has worked to advance the field through multiple collaborative efforts, including Artefactual's other open source projects, Access To Memory (AtoM) and Binder, InterPARES, Digital Records Forensics, BitCurator, and 4C. Courtney has also been a regular guest instructor for the MIT Digital Preservation Management Workshop and has taught and lectured in several other cultural heritage venues on topics related to digital preservation and curation. She earned her MAS and MLIS degrees from the University of British Columbia.
Panel discussion
Courtney's presentation will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Barbara Signori, Head of e-Helvetica, Swiss National Library, and Patricia Sleeman, Archivist (Digital), United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The panelists will discuss the web archiving projects currently underway at their institutions.
