The Department of History, University of Zurich, is celebrating its anniversary. To mark the occasion we are organising the conference «Den Quellen (neu) begegnen - (Re)encountering the Sources».
Sources are at the heart of the historian's daily work. The founding of the Department of History in the 1870s was itself one outcome of a sustained focus on sources in historical research and teaching that still characterizes historical work today, even under constantly changing conditions.
This trans-epochal conference is dedicated to the topic of sources and source work. Through five panel sections and a keynote lecture, historical perspectives on the work on sources are linked to present and future challenges. The focus will be on practical and political questions of source material accessibility and on conducting research in light of the material, global and digital turns.
