The research initiative “Ukrainian Research in Switzerland” is calling for applications for two workshop grants for the 2018 spring semester (February to June) and the 2018 autumn semester (September to January).

About URIS
URIS’s objectives are to make a long-term contribution to furthering Ukraine expertise in Switzerland, to foster the next generation of scholars, and to contribute to the international networks of Switzerlandbased university research on Ukraine (www.uris.ch). For 2018, URIS is calling for applications for two
workshop grants to fund two academic workshops at a university in Switzerland.

Application modalities
Scholars with a doctorate may apply for the workshop grants alone or as a team. Students and doctoral candidates may also be involved in the team. The workshop is to be held at a university in Switzerland in 2018. Applicants submit a brief concept outline in English (incl. programme outline, list of participants and draft budget) along with the application form. The awarding of the workshop grants will be decided by the URIS academic advisory board.

Workshop format
The funding is for one- to two-day workshops on an innovative Ukraine-related subject in the humanities, cultural studies or social sciences. The workshop format is open (discussion of reading material, source analysis, panel discussion, presentations, etc.) and may be structured to suit the chosen subject. The URIS workshops aim to promote dialogue between scholars from Switzerland and other countries. The workshops are to be held in English, German, French or Italian. As well as financial support, URIS can also provide administrative assistance with the preparation and management of the event.

URIS offers:
• Max. CHF 6 000 for travel and accommodation expenses for the invited guests, food and beverages during the workshop, workshop brochure
• The URIS coordination office can also assist the organisers with the planning and management of the workshop: reservations, invoicing, printing, publicity, etc.

Application deadline: Friday, 8 December 2017 (midnight).
Application documents:
1) completed application including programme outline and list of participants,
2) draft budget,
3) confirmation from a Swiss university that the event can be held on its premises,
4) Applicant’s CV
