Abstract

This document provides an overview of the current state and formulations of my dissertation "Communities, Commemoration, and Contestation: Memories of Violent Mass Death in Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq, 1982-2022." My research explores questions of why and how certain cases of violent mass death in the Middle East are commemorated in different ways among communities at the local, national, and international levels.
