Abstract

In 19th century Kenya several forms of forced labor and servitude took place. In this project I will understand such forms of labor as the consequence of diverse influences on the local arrangements. The fight against slavery justified in part the occupation of Kenya by the British at the end of the nineteenth century. Therefore, the terms of servitude were changed again, this time for the sake of civilization, the progress and the creation of modern laborers within the British empire.
