Online Kick-Off-Meeting “Visual History”-Portal

5. May 2026 - 18:00 bis 20:00
Conference

Images are important sources for historical research. Today, they also play an increasingly important role in historiography because numerous photographic and film sources have been secured, collected, indexed, and made available to researchers in recent decades. Many of these sources have now been digitized and are available online. At the same time, 'visual history' has established itself as an important field of historical research. The visuality of history as much as the historicity of the visual have become crucial subjects of historiographical research and history teaching. In combination with texts, images are also well suited to conveying historical knowledge, as the series Video Essays in Rural History and Photo Essays in Rural History demonstrate.
