From the Field to the Self. Ethnopsychology and the Politics of Culture Contact, 1930-1980

The main objective of the prospective thesis will be to trace the concept of "acculturation" as it was formulated by French social scientists, North American cultural anthropologists as well as African psychiatrists and philosophers in the middle of the twentieth century. The thesis explores the relationship of the concept to the psy disciplines and the ways in which it was applied internationally in the contexts of decolonization and migration.
