Digital Federalism in the History of Technology and Knowledge, 1970–1995

27. septembre 2019 - 09:00 - 12:00
Workshop
The workshop explores histories of concepts, practices and projects in academia and public administration that transformed and shaped computer-based communication. It therefore discusses digital federalism as a set of “strangely heterogeneous relations” (Tom Gunning). We like to suggest that early digital infrastructures such as networks, computing centres, codes and protocols led to the so-called new media that followed. We aim for an engaged debate between speakers and participants from archival and media sciences, history of technology, information studies, philosophy of science, sociology, and science management. Format: Workshop (public, with limited number of seats) Registration until September 20, 2019 via digitalisierung(a)collegium.ethz.ch, Keyword: Federalism The event takes place within the framework of the theme week: „State – Democracy – Digitisation“ from September 27 to October 1, 2019.
