Several universities in Switzerland offer courses of study on the culture and history of Eastern Europe, Slavonic Studies etc. While the different faculties are well connected, the exchange between the students doesn’t take place or only at a very low level.
This is what we want to change with this conference: our goal consists in assembling students of BA and BA degree programs as well as PhD candidates to meet and to exchange and connect with each other. We want to create a platform where the participants can establish new contacts and improve their presentation skills at the same time. Additionally this conference offers undergraduate students the possibility to present and discuss their scientific research in a professional setting.
The conference consists of panels, where the students present their current projects of research and theses, but also contains other activities such as a guided tour through the city of Basel, a dinner or a movie night where the students can connect with each other.
In the run-up to the conference the participating students are invited to send a short summary (1 page) of their paper to the organizers. Current as well as completed research projects are accepted. There are no limits set concerning the different academic disciplines: the range includes history, literature, film studies, cultural and social sciences. However, there has to be a reference to the area of Eastern Europe. The paper should be an abstract of the thesis, research project, seminar paper etc. presented and can be written in English, German or French.
The paper including your personal data (name, university, program of studies) should be handed in until April 26th, 2019 and sent to the following email address: luca.thoma@unibas.ch.
The conference will take place from June 5th to 7th, 2019 at the University of Basel. Further program details will be communicated at a later time.
