Basel History Lecture: Repair, reuse, recycle: the circular economy of Asian goods in Europe

Anne Gerritsen is Professor of History at the University of Warwick in Coventry, UK and holds the Chair of Asian Art at Leiden University, NL. She has published widely on the early modern history of Europe's entanglement with Asia and is a renowned specialist in the material culture of global exchange and the history of porcelain and global medical goods. In her lecture, Anne Gerritsen explores the possibilities of using damaged, repaired and recycled Asian objects in European collections to understand Europe's encounter and engagement with Asian material culture. The lecture will be held in English.
