A Fresh Look at AI in Cultural Heritage in Italy
We are excited to present a new research report: AI Compass for Cultural Heritage (2026) (DOI: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.20391889 ), which explores the adoption of generative AI in the GLAM sector in Italy. The report examines expectations and resistances surrounding AI, analyses concrete case studies of AI implementation in museums and archives, and offers key recommendations for responsible adoption.
Two of the report’s co-authors, Simone Natale (University of Turin) and Alessia Tripaldi (Sineglossa), will present their main findings and tackle questions :
- What drives GLAM institutions to invest in AI?
- How can AI serve cultural heritage without sacrificing its complexity?
- What can institutions learn from the process of engaging in generative AI projects?
Generative AI in Action: Meet Digital Einstein
The session will also feature a contribution by Raphael Wampfler (ETH Zurich) on the project Digital Einstein - a compelling example of AI-based conversational tools in an educational and cultural context.
