The University of Neuchâtel is offering a Senior Lecturer position
(Maître d’enseignement et de recherche, MER) in contemporary migration history.
Candidates must hold a doctorate in history or social sciences (his- torically oriented), as well as demonstrate strong academic and research teaching skills, confirmed by a solid list of publications.
The candidate will work at the History Department (Faculty of Arts and Humanities) at 30% for teaching tasks, and at 50% as researcher at the NCCR on the move project Mobility, Diversity and the Democratic Welfare State. She or he will be a specialist in the field of contemporary and comparative European migration history (19th and 20th Century) and interested in the economic, social and political transformations related to these phenomena.
The fields of specialization are as follows:
- Economic, social and political history of migration;
- History of contentions and social transformations;
- History and political sociology of social movements (incl. claims and media analysis); - History of mobilities in Europe
The candidate must have excellent knowledge in methods of historical and social sciences, and must be able to teach at the Bachelor and Master level in history and social sciences, and support methodological and empirical papers at all educational levels (incl. PhD). She or he must also demonstrate thorough knowledge of interdisciplinary approaches, in particular through her or his teaching and research experience.
It is also preferable that the candidate demonstrate experience in terms of launching, financing and carrying out research projects, with an interest in developing collaborations within the University of Neuchâtel, both nationally and internationally, in particular within the framework of the NCCR on the move and the European Master in Migration Studies (EuMIGS). Excellent knowledge of English and French is required, good knowledge of German and Italian is an asset. Finally, experience in university administration is also desirable.
Begin date: 1 September 2019 or upon agreement
Duration of the position: 4 years (can be extended by 2 years. Confirmation for an indefinite period after eval- uation, according to the University Law of Neuchâtel).
