Full OR Assistant (tenure track) Professor in Medieval and Renaissance History

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a Full or Assistant (tenure track) professorship in Medieval and Renaissance History to be filled by 1st August 2021.

Job content:
The Institute of History offers courses from a variety of perspectives in ancient, medieval, early modern, modern and contemporary history. We are looking for an outstanding scholar with an expertise in the field of medieval history and teaching capacities in early modern / Renaissance history. The position involves research, teaching and supervision on topics related to the social and political history of the Middle Ages, with a special interest in regional perspectives and connected histories.

We are seeking to appoint an original person who is willing to invest fully in the future of the Institute alongside a diverse and collaborative team characterized by a common concern for exchanges across epochal and disciplinary boundaries. Experience and interest in the field of public history is desirable.

Duties:
The successful applicant will be teaching and supervising at all levels (BA to PhD). Teaching duty at the University of Neuchâtel is typically 7 periods of 45 minutes per week each semester for the full professor (100%); 4 periods of 45 minutes for the assistant professor (100%). Other duties and responsibilities include involvement in the administration at the level of the Institute and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, contributions to the intellectual life of the University, research excellence and successful grant capture.

Requirements:
Nationally and internationally recognised outstanding scholarship, relevant doctoral degree in History; area of specialization: medieval history; area of competence: early modern period / Renaissance; outstanding publication record, including at least one monograph and articles in international peer-reviewed journals; experience and efficiency in grant capture, strong teaching skills. Courses will be taught in French. Non-French speakers are expected to teach in French after a two-year period.

Starting date: August 1, 2021 or upon agreement.
