The Historisches Museum in Bern was built by the Neuchâtel architect André Lambert in 1894.

Organization

The Historisches Museum in Bern encloses the Einstein Museum. Albert Einstein's life an work are shown in the historical context of the twentieth century.

Inventory

The Historisches Museum combines an important ethnographic collections together with the Bernese historical collections from prehistory to the present day. The museum's holdings comprise some 250,000 objects. The Burgundian tapestries, the Königsfeld Diptych, the bronze hydria from Grächwil, as well as a series of ethnographic and numismatic collections, enjoy international fame.

Wolfgang Pauli Archive

The CERN Archive has custody of the Pauli Archive, a private collection of scientific books, reprints, correspondence and manuscripts of the late Professor Wolfgang Pauli (1900 - 1958), Nobel Laureate, 1945. The Pauli Archive also includes many photographs, Pauli's Nobel Prize and other scientific awards.

The holdings can be searched by an Archive guide or a database.

CERN Archive

History

The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) is the first worldwide research centre for particle physics. Founded in 1954; today the most European countries are member states. In 1979 the committee of the organisation advice planned to write the history of CERN and to put on a historical archive.

Inventory

The CERN Archive is a repository for records about all aspects of CERN's history, from 1954 until the present day. It includes files of letters, memos, reports, notes and other documents created or received in the course of their duties by former Directors-General and other senior staff, by the CERN Council and subordinate Committees, and by CERN Divisions, and selected Experiments and Committees. In addition to the CERN fonds, it also contains the Wolfgang Pauli Archive: a collection of correspondence, manuscripts and other material representing the scientific legacy of Wolfgang Pauli (Nobel Laureate, 1945).

The documentation centre in the Swiss Museum of Transport consists of a special collection of historical documents, a reference library and subject dossiers.
The various subject groups in the rail transport, aviation and space travel, road transport, navigation and tourism areas currently comprise some 150,000 documents.

Inventory

The contents deal primarily with the topic of transport and mobility in Switzerland and its surrounding area. The archive and library document the transport operators, their technical development, manufacturers as well as operators and their direct impact on the environment.

Remarks: 

The library and reading room in the Document Centre are open:
Tuesday - Friday: 14.00 - 17.00.
First Saturday of each month: 14.00 - 17.00.
Advance registration is required to use the archive materials (such as photos, plans etc.) and Rara.
