Gosteli-Foundation - Archive on the history of women in Switzerland

The Gosteli Foundation was established in 1982 with the intention of being used to provide independent sponsorship for the archives documenting the history of the feminist movement in Switzerland.

Research

The Foundation has two main aims:

1. An ideology-free rehabilitation of the history of the Swiss feminist movement
2. Inclusion of the history of women and the feminist movement in our country in history books, in school education and in adult education.

Inventory

The Gosteli Foundation differentiates between the archives of Women’s organisations and Women’s unions, private archives of female individuals and biographical notes. Together, these records document the manifold activities of Swiss women since the late 19th century.
Online available are overviews about private archives and archives of women's organisations.

The archives also include:

    • Magazines of the feminist movement
    • Pamphlets on feminist issues
    • Material on women’s professions, women in work, suffrage, women’s congresses and women’s exhibitions
    • Theses, degree theses, licentiates and term papers
    • Magazine collections
    • Newspaper articles
    • Audio and video material
    • Collections of biographies of both Swiss and foreign women

The Archive on the history of women in Switzerland serve to hold the sources for the history of women. It offers opportunities and support to all researchers in their work. The archives maintain contact with institutions both at home and abroad.

Library of the Tibet Institute Rikon

Characteristics
History

The monastic Tibet Institute in Rikon was founded in the 1960s according to the wish and under the patronage of the 14th Dalai Lama. Today the Buddhist monastery and its Tibetan monastic community constitute a vital part of the cultural and religious life of Tibetans in Switzerland. In general, the Tibet Institute contributes to the exchange of culture and knowledge between East and West.

Inventory

The Library of the Tibet Institute is a specialized scientific library open to the public. With over 12’000 titles, it is one of the world’s largest libraries of Tibetology.
Books (including rare items such as the original edition of Guiseppe Tucci’s Tibetan Painted Scrolls), separate prints (documenting the foundation and construction of the monastery and the Tibetan people in Switzerland), journals and newspapers in Tibetan language, films, audio recordings, collection of maps, press documentation, photographic documentation.
The holdings of the library are availabel by a direct catalogue or by the catalogue IDS Zürich University.

Alliance Sud - Documentation and Resource Centre

Alliance Sud, the Swiss Alliance of Development Organisations, is the common platform for development policy lobbying by the six major Swiss development organisations.

The Alliance Sud maintains publicly accessible documentation centres in Berne and Lausanne . They are directed at everybody dealing with North- South questions and developing countries. Information on more than 500 subjects from alphabetization to forced labour, on the social, political and economic situation of the countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America as well as Central and Eastern Europe. The documentation centre is freely accessible.
The website Alliance Sud also allows access to the on-line catalogue and to numerous documentary resources.

"Women in Politics" - bibliographic database

The database provides access to independent, as well as dependent literature, legal texts, periodicals, images etc. on the subject of "women's participation in political life" and can be queried via a differentiated search mask. It has been developed with the help of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The database is updated regularly and new books and articles, which appear worldwide with regard to the women in the politics, are considered.
