Albrecht von Haller (1708-1777)

This website is intended to serve as a platform for all who are interested in Haller and his times.

It offers an abundantly illustrated introduction to Haller’s life and work, information about the principal fields of endeavour in which he was engaged, insights into past and present research, and an index of the large body of Haller’s original writings available online.

The Swiss polymath Albrecht von Haller (1708–1777) was one of the central figures of the century of the Enlightenment. As a poet and scholar, physician and botanist, collector and encyclopaedist, university professor and experimental researcher, society president and correspondent, renowned author and influential reviewer, magistrate and orthodox Christian, he reflects many of the intellectual movements, events, and conditions of his time.

Königsfelden Convent Church

Inventory: 

The colourful church windows are among the highlights of Late Medieaval European glass-painting.

Wildegg Castle

Inventory: 

Collection concerning the history of the Effingers in Wildegg: diaries, letters, memoirs and original rooms of the family.

The vegetable garden shelters antique agricultural crop of Pro Specie Rara.

Abegg Foundation

Inventory: 

The Abegg Foundation collects and undertakes research into historic textiles from the early days to around 1800, primarily regarding pieces from the European and Mediterranean areas. The textile wall hangings of late antiquity, pieces from the European Middle Ages and the testimonies of the Silk Road from the early Middle Ages are of major international importance.

Every Year the Museum organises a special exhibition about the textile art.

Castle of Gruyères

Inventory: 

The tour of the castle offers a walk through eight centuries of architecture, history and culture: castle area, historical collection, paintings and special exhibitions.

Castle of Chillon

Inventory: 

The halls and rooms show the history of the castle: underground (13th c.), halls and courtyards, chambre bernoise, Camera Domini (Duke of Savoy, 14th c.), chapel (14th c.), defenses (watchtowers, sentry walk, moat and turrets), Peter II of Savoy Room and Weapons room.

The castel presents some exhibitions too.
