Swiss National Museum - Timemachine

Timemachine is an online exhibition of the Swiss National Museum with historical photographs on "Switzerland in motion".

The photographs can be searched by themes, epochs and keywords.

The photographic collection covers the period from 1839 to the recent past and comprises almost 200'000 photographs. The goal is to document the social and cultural change in Switzerland since 1840 as well as the history of photography in Switzerland.

Gramophone - Historical recordings from the Swiss National Sound Archives

Gramophone is a project of the Swiss National Sound Archives, which aims to safeguard and enhance a number of historical sound recordings (on cylinders and 78rpm records) preserved in the archives of the Phonotheque.

On this page, a selection of sound documents of the Gramophone project is brought to the public as "free access". These are cylinders and 78rpm records that, in accordance with the Swiss laws, belong to the public domain and can therefore be published online. More that 200 historical sound documents are listenable.

The collection comprises Western and Eastern manuscripts, autograph manuscripts and incunabula – of which one tenth are rare or unique items. There are also several thousand original prints dating from between the 16th and the 20th centuries. Among the treasures of this collection are the oldest known manuscript of the Gospel of Saint John, three manuscripts of Dante, Goethe several texts autographs and original edition of the Communist Manifesto of Marx and Engels.

The site of the foundation Jacques-Edouard Berger provides online part of the 100.000 images classified by countries and places and some courses (video) too on "Les grandes écoles de peinture" and "L'architecture et le sacré".

Jacques-Edouard Berger has brought back over 100,000 pictures for the purpose of courses or lectures from Europe, the United States, Egypt, China, India, Japan, Burma, Laos and Thailand.

Some of the images, courses and conferences have been posted on the website of the foundation.

The site also offers a Timeline of the history of art with some of its most important figures.
