Gramophone - Historical recordings from the Swiss National Sound Archives

Gramophone is a project of the Swiss National Sound Archives, which aims to safeguard and enhance a number of historical sound recordings (on cylinders and 78rpm records) preserved in the archives of the Phonotheque.

On this page, a selection of sound documents of the Gramophone project is brought to the public as "free access". These are cylinders and 78rpm records that, in accordance with the Swiss laws, belong to the public domain and can therefore be published online. More that 200 historical sound documents are listenable.

Bellinzona UNESCO World Heritage

Bellinzona's castles are considered amongst the finest examples of medieval fortification architecture in Switzerland. The website "Bellinzona UNESCO World Heritage" offers a detailed description of the history as well as the castles and walls of Bellinzona.
In addition to that, scenes of medieval Bellinzona, executed by Bardo Carugo and based on reconstructions of the engineer Guiseppe Weith, are presented and described.

Swiss Heritage Society

Inventory: 

The Swiss Heritage Society is dedicated to the advancement of Switzerland’s architectural heritage. Its focus is on the preservation of important landmarks, the development of the structural environment, and the promotion of good architectural design.

Earthquake catalog ECOS-09

ECOS-09 (Earthquake Catalog of Switzerland 2009) is the current earthquake catalog of Switzerland. It integrates the following basic information:

  • The Macroseismic Earthquake Catalog of Switzerland, with events from AD 250, revised and supplemented to 2008;
  • Yearly reports of the Swiss earthquake commission since 1879;
  • Earthquake locations of the instrumental networks of the SED since 1975;
  • Supplemented by 12 earthquake catalogs from neighboring and international agencies.

Museum of Communication Library/PTT Archive

Inventory: 

The Museum of Communication Library/PTT Archive comprises three libraries: the Historical PTT Library at the PTT Archive, the Philately Library and the Reference Library at the Museum of Communication. They provide publications, complements to the archival collections, specialist literature on the areas covered by the permanent collections and stamps and auction catalogues.
