Pharmacy Museum Basel

Inventory: 
The "Pharmacy museum" contains collections of old pharmaceuticals, pharmacy furniture, laboratory utensils, ceramics, instruments, books, art- and craftwork. The museum is situated in the old house "Zum Vorderen Sessel", where the famous humanist Erasmus and the alchemist Paracelsus once dwelled.

Albrecht von Haller (1708-1777)

This website is intended to serve as a platform for all who are interested in Haller and his times.

It offers an abundantly illustrated introduction to Haller’s life and work, information about the principal fields of endeavour in which he was engaged, insights into past and present research, and an index of the large body of Haller’s original writings available online.

The Swiss polymath Albrecht von Haller (1708–1777) was one of the central figures of the century of the Enlightenment. As a poet and scholar, physician and botanist, collector and encyclopaedist, university professor and experimental researcher, society president and correspondent, renowned author and influential reviewer, magistrate and orthodox Christian, he reflects many of the intellectual movements, events, and conditions of his time.

Fondation Martin Bodmer - Library and Museum

Inventory: 

The collection comprises Western and Eastern manuscripts, autograph manuscripts and incunabula – of which one tenth are rare or unique items. There are also several thousand original prints dating from between the 16th and the 20th centuries. Among the treasures of this collection are the oldest known manuscript of the Gospel of Saint John, three manuscripts of Dante, Goethe several texts autographs and original edition of the Communist Manifesto of Marx and Engels.

FreyNäpflin Foundation

Inventory: 

Ruth and Anton Frey-Näpflin collected during 50 years paintings, sculptures and crafted objects.

The collection is mainly composed of works by the Old Masters, among them prominent representatives of the Dutch, Italian, French and German schools of the late 15th to 19th century. It also contains a significant number of important works from the 20th century.
The collection is composed of outstanding artists such as Peter Paul, Anthonis van Dyck, Filippino Lippi, Quentin Metsys and Hans Schäuffelein.

The colourful church windows are among the highlights of Late Medieaval European glass-painting.

Foundation E.G. Bührle Collection - Works

Descriptions and pictures of numerous works of the E.G. Bührle Collection are available online.
