History of the Swiss National Museum

Organization: 

The Swiss National Museum includes the following museums Landesmuseum Zürich, Château de Prangins, Forum Schweizer Geschichte Schwyz as well as the Collection Centre.

Inventory: 

The permanent exhibitions present Swiss cultural history from its beginnings to the present, and give an insight into Swiss identity and the rich tapestry of Swiss history and culture. Temporary exhibitions on current topics add to the experience.

The museums shelter collections concerning the special sections of the 20th/21st centuries, Archaeology, Arms and Militaria, Banners and Flags, Carriage/Wagon/Sled, Ceramics, Coins and Medal Collections, Ethnography, Furnishing, Glasses, Graphics, historic Photography, Jewellery, Paintings, precious Metals, Sculpture, Seals, Stained Glasses, Textiles and Costumes, Timepieces and Scientific Instruments, Toys and Uniforms.

The Swiss National Museum contains also a study centre with a library and a picture archive.
