Description
The research project "Hip Hop as a Transcultural Phenomenon. Jamaican and Mexican cultural elements in US Hip Hop (c.1970s – 1990s)“, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and directed by Prof. Dr. Christian Büschges (Historical Institute) and Prof. Dr. Britta Sweers (Institute for Musicology) offers a doctoral fellowship starting on the 15. September 2018. Within the project the doctoral student will work on a Ph.D. thesis dealing with the case study of New York / Kingston.

Education and experience
Applicants should hold a good or very good M.A. degree in Musicology / Ethnomusicology, History or in another project-related discipline, as well as very good language skills in English. Spanish and German language skills are welcome. A background knowledge in (ethno-)musicological approaches is recommended.

We offer
The three-year doctoral fellowship is located at the Historical Institute / Institute of Musicology of the University of Bern. The student will enter the doctoral programm of Global Studies organized by the Walter Benjamin Kolleg/Center for Global Studies, which offers excellent facilities for supervision, education, and advanced vocational training.
